Naugatuck is 1-9 against Woodland Regional since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Greyhounds will challenge the Hawks at 3:45 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Naugatuck will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Ansonia on Tuesday. The Greyhounds were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Chargers. The contest marked the Greyhounds' most dominant victory of the season.

Leah Chatfield made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amanda Torrens, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Ainsley Kenney also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Naugatuck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Woodland Regional strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Oxford with a sharp 10-1 win. Fans of the Hawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Ella VanAlstyne made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. VanAlstyne was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Julia Rowley was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kate Lisowski, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Naugatuck has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Woodland Regional, their win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Naugatuck has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodland Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Naugatuck might still be hurting after the 17-4 loss they got from Woodland Regional when the teams last played on April 5th. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
