Rio Hondo Prep suffered their biggest loss since December 11, 2023 on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 82-57 walloping at the hands of Flintridge Prep. While losing is never fun, Rio Hondo Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1024th, while Flintridge Prep is ranked 246th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Derek David, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Curtis, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Providence entered their tilt with Shalhevet with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Providence secured a 64-59 W over Shalhevet on Saturday.
Rio Hondo Prep's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Providence, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Rio Hondo Prep was dealt a bruising 100-73 loss at the hands of Providence in their previous meeting on January 5th. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Rio Hondo Prep was down 54-32.
