Basketball Game Preview: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Banneker Bulldogs

The Roosevelt Roughriders are taking a road trip to challenge the Banneker Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Roosevelt knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 25 matches -- so hopefully Banneker likes a good challenge.

Roosevelt is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Anacostia 91-17 on Wednesday. The Roughriders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Antoine Johnson, Jr. had an outrageously good game as he shot 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Those 26 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Hall, who went 5 for 7 en route to 12 points and three steals.

Roosevelt was working as a unit and finished the game with 28 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Banneker faced McKinley Tech in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Banneker lost to McKinley Tech at home by a 84-67 margin. It was the first time this season that the Bulldogs let down their fans at home.

Roosevelt's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points per game. As for Banneker, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8.

Roosevelt didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Banneker in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 69-65 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Roosevelt since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
