Basketball Recap: Hobart Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Riley Weber and Hallie Pendleton

Hobart was the 51-48 winner over Illiana Christian when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Hobart Brickies fell 53-41 to the Illiana Christian Vikings on Wednesday. The Brickies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hallie Pendleton and Riley Weber certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Pendleton posted 13 points and three steals, while Weber had 11 points and seven rebounds. Those 13 points gave Pendleton a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Hobart smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Illiana Christian had a senior duo take command as Ella Olthof dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds and Abbie Ritzema went 6 of 15 on her way to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Olthof is becoming a predictor of Illiana Christian's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 3-1 (and 1-4 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Eenigenburg, who posted 12 points.

Hobart's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Illiana Christian, their record now sits at 4-5.

Hobart wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-46 loss against Kankakee Valley on the 13th. As for Illiana Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-13 win against Calumet New Tech on the 14th.
