Franklin is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Weston Ranch a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Franklin Yellowjackets will host the Weston Ranch Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Tuesday, Franklin came up short against Bear Creek and fell 6-2.
Jasmine Nieto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Franklin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aliciana Young, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Edison hit Weston Ranch with a eight-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 17-6 to the Vikings. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly 11 runs.
Baylee Santiago was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Cianna Avamolifua was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Franklin's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Weston Ranch, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Weston Ranch struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Franklin couldn't quite get it done against Weston Ranch when the teams last played on April 3rd as they fell 8-3. Will the Yellowjackets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
