The Williams Vikings will take on the Northland Prep Academy Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Williams has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Williams is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They came up short against Needles, falling 15-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Williams saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Jensen, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Northland Prep Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pinon on Tuesday. The Spartans blew past the Eagles 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Ryliegh LaFave made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Northland Prep Academy got a massive performance out of Aliyah Gabrys, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Lauren Frate was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Northland Prep Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Williams, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Williams has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northland Prep Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Williams beat Northland Prep Academy 8-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
