The Cambria Heights Highlanders will face off against the United Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cambria Heights is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Cambria Heights made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Moshannon Valley, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Cambria Heights was the clear victor by a 9-3 margin over Moshannon Valley on Monday. Considering the Highlanders have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Nolan Clawson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Clawson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Garrett Jasper was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Stephen Nelen, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, United made sure to put some runs up on the board against River Valley on Thursday. United came out on top against River Valley by a score of 12-7.
Like Cambria Heights, United also got a great game from a two-way player: Brendan James. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. James was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Kordish, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Dmitri Worthington was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Cambria Heights' win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. As for United, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
United's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cambria Heights has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for United, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Cambria Heights' sizable advantage in that area, United will need to find a way to close that gap.
