After a string of three wins, the Battle Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Republic by a score of 51-49. Battle lost against Republic in their previous head to head back in November of 2015, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 71-44 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Battle lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaleah Brookins. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. Jaelynn Green was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Battle's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Republic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Battle won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kickapoo at 12:00 p.m. on December 16th. Kickapoo will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Republic won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Jefferson City at 3:30 p.m. on December 16th. Jefferson City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Republic is ranked 53rd).
