The Providence Grove Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to Chatham Charter. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
JADA NIXON and LAUREL BERNHARDT certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. NIXON scored 20 points along with six steals, while BERNHARDT scored 16 points along with six rebounds. NIXON scored a full 36.4% of Providence Grove's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of LEELA VONDERHEY, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Providence Grove were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chatham Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Meah Brooks, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Brooks' 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Delana Loflin, who scored 16 points.
Providence Grove has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for Chatham Charter, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence Grove will take on Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Trinity comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Chatham Charter, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Woods Charter at 6:00 p.m. Woods Charter will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 608th, while Chatham Charter is ranked 133rd).
