Escambia is 0-10 against Tate since February of 2020 but things could change on Wednesday. The Gators will face off against the Aggies at 6:30 p.m. Escambia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Escambia took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Pensacola Catholic.
Abbie Freeman and Madelynn Ladner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Freeman struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ladner pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. At bat, Freeman went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Ladner went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Amber Markham was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Escambia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pensacola Catholic only posted an OBP of .367.
Meanwhile, Tate was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 9-4 to Northview.
Tate saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Womack, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Taylor Robinson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Tate's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Escambia, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Escambia's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Gators have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Tate, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Escambia continue to outrun the ball?
Escambia might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Tate in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
