The Woodland Wolverines had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged First Baptist School out 67-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Woodland to victory were Tyree Edwards and JaKease Salley. Edwards scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, while Salley dropped a double-double on 20 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Travon Tate, who scored 12 points.
Woodland's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for First Baptist School, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodland will challenge Goose Creek at 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Goose Creek is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for First Baptist School, they will head out on the road to face off against Stratford at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
