The Caston Comets will face off against the Triton Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Caston's tournament run continued when they took on North Miami on Saturday. Caston lost 56-35 to North Miami. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Comets have suffered against the Warriors since December 10, 2019.
Despite the loss, Caston saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madisyn Douglass posted 19 points and six rebounds. That was a full 54.3% of Caston's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Allison Craig was another key player, putting up four points.
Even though they lost, Caston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Triton suffered their closest defeat since November 12, 2024 last Saturday. They fell just short of Pioneer by a score of 41-38. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Caston will need focus on slowing down Sydney King, one of several Triton players who made an impact when they last played. She went 5 of 9 on her way to 15 points. That's the most points King has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Viers, who put up five points along with eight boards and five blocks.
Triton's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Caston, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Caston has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Caston against Triton in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 50-20 win. Does Caston have another victory up their sleeve, or will Triton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
