The Ponca Indians were the 51-25 winner over the Battle Creek Braves when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Ponca ended up on the wrong side of a tough 46-22 walloping at the hands of Battle Creek on Thursday. It was the first time this season that Ponca let down their fans at home.
Battle Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jadyn Buckendahl, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaidyn Smutny, who scored eight points.
Ponca's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4. As for Battle Creek, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Ponca will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Crofton on January 2, 2024. Crofton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Ponca likes a good challenge. Battle Creek and Norfolk Catholic will round out the year against one another at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Norfolk Catholic is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
