3A South Central recap Oct. 9, 2012
Coronado was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in 3A South Central. The Cougars defeated Mitchell 21-16 earlier in the week.
Coronado and the Marauders played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Coronado eventually emerging with a 21-16 victory. Antwan Outlaw caught three passes for 103 yards in the win.
Nate Conner put up the best numbers through the air as Lewis-Palmer fell to Discovery Canyon. He finished with a total of six completions for 105 yards and one touchdown. Conner's favorite target this week was Jason Chiarenze, who caught two passes for 62 yards.
Josh Knotek made the biggest impact on defense this week as Bob Lizarraga's team bested Mitchell. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed 2.0 sacks.
Theron Brandt was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 146 yards as Wasson bested Archie Malloy III's team. Prentiss Green also contributed to the rushing game with 51 yards on the ground.
Richie Perea provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Thunderbirds defeated Woodland Park. He completed 10 passes for 128 yards and also ran for 50 yards. Perea's favorite target this week was DJ Hanes, who caught five passes for 78 yards.
Wasson's Perea and Hanes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A South Central in both passing and receiving yards. Perea has thrown for 1384 yards this season, while Hanes has 38 catches for 700 yards. Aaron Wright from the Marauders leads the league in rushing with 737 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Coronado takes on the Rangers. The Cougars are currently in second, while Lewis-Palmer is in fifth.
