The Sacramento Dragons were the 85-84 winner over the Capital Christian Cougars when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Sacramento suffered a tough 71-48 defeat at the hands of Capital Christian on Tuesday. Sacramento has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Sacramento lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sir Marius Jones. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Raejon Bland, who scored nine points.
Sacramento struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Capital Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylen Valdez out in front who scored 25 points along with five rebounds. Valdez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Myles Wiggins was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Sacramento's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 19-6. As for Capital Christian, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-7.
Sacramento will be playing in front of their home fans against Del Campo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Del Campo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday. As for Capital Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Vista del Lago at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 69.6 points so far this season, Capital Christian's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Vista del Lago better be ready for a challenge.
