2A-1 Region II District 6 recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sunnyvale, who took down 399th ranked Sunnyvale, 28-10. Sam Wells threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 68 yards in the win.
Caddo Mills moved up to 695 from 807 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 6. The Foxes climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Pottsboro 28-20.
Tanner Frye put up the best numbers through the air as the Cardinals defeated Caddo Mills. He finished with 12 completions for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Frye's favorite target this week was Justin Lawler, who caught eight passes for 90 yards.
Daxx Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 155 yards as Steve Sumrow's team lost to Farmersville. Teammate Dakota Monroe added to the ground attack by rushing for 42 yards.
Grisolia was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bulldogs fell to the Farmers. Grisolia racked up eight receptions for 195 yards. Travis Jones helped Howe's passing attack out by catching six balls for 79 yards.
Ryan Haines provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Howe lost to Farmersville. He completed 16 passes for 284 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 65 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Ryan Cottingame of Sunnyvale is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1442. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, Van Alstyne's Alex Cole has rushed for 856 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dallas Sewell. The Pottsboro star has 30 catches for 789 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Commerce takes on Pottsboro. As it stands, the Tigers are in third, while Matt Poe's team is in first.
The Cardinals extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Foxes, 28-20. The win marks seventh in a row for the Pottsboro.
