Leesville Road is 3-0 against Athens Drive since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Leesville Road Pride will look to defend their home field against the Athens Drive Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Leesville Road had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They breezed by Enloe at home to the tune of 49-0. The result was nothing new for Leesville Road, who have now won six matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
Deiondre Goldston looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 114 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Leesville Road's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Xavier Lewis and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Athens Drive was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 42-38 to Broughton. Athens Drive gained 111 more yards on the day, but it was Broughton that made the best of use of them.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Isaiah Beardsley, who rushed for 288 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Chase Hardy, who rushed for 96 yards and four touchdowns.
Leesville Road has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in seven of their first eight matches, giving them a 7-1 record. Athens Drive has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Leesville Road has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Athens Drive struggles in that department as they've been even better at 247 per game. It's looking like Thursday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
