The Argenta-Oreana Bombers will face off against the Cumberland Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Argenta-Oreana's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against St. Thomas More as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Sabers: they've now won seven in a row.
Elyssa Armstrong made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Argenta-Oreana let Angelina Madrigal and Pyper Jones run wild. Madrigal went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Madrigal a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gracie Manning, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Argenta-Oreana always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Thomas More only posted an OBP of .176.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cumberland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Neoga on Wednesday.
Mia Holsapple was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Holsapple was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Cumberland got a massive performance out of Noraa Cross, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Jude Miller was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Cumberland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Argenta-Oreana, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Argenta-Oreana beat Cumberland 5-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Bombers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
