The Milpitas Trojans will head out to face off against the Live Oak Acorns at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Milpitas comes in on three and Live Oak on six.
Milpitas' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Wilcox as they made off with a 12-0 victory. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.
Marissa Gil was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She also put up three hits, which were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Chloe Cabrera and April Price did most of the damage at the plate: Cabrera went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Price went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Price has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaye Hudson, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Milpitas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilcox only posted a batting average of .138.
While Live Oak didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Piedmont Hills by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Acorns have won by exactly five runs.
Julianna Altamirano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Olivia Mixco was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Quinn Hulber-Dana was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Live Oak's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Milpitas, their record now sits at 3-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Milpitas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've averaged .418. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Milpitas came out on top in a nail-biter against Live Oak in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Acorns turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
