Section 8 Conference V recap Oct. 9, 2012
Long Island Lutheran extended the longest winning streak in Section 8 Conference V this week by beating Roslyn, 50-34. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Jericho took down Great Neck North 35-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Long Island Lutheran's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tiquan Garner threw for 35 and one touchdown and Joseph Barrios had 35 yards receiving. On the ground Garner chipped in 238 yards.
Long Island Lutheran's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matt Borer has thrown for 235 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Barrios has two catches for 90 yards. Garner leads the league in rushing with 830 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Friends Academy takes on Chris Reno's team. As it stands, the Quakers are in fifth, while the Crusaders are in first.
The Bulldogs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 14,401 from 14,504. The advance stemmed from a 50-34 victory over Roslyn last week.
