The Viera Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by Rockledge on the road to the tune of 61-27. Given Viera's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Rockledge is ranked 520th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Lauren Bell, who scored 28 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Viera's points. Phantasia Lauriston was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Rockledge's loss came despite strong showings from Jaida Williams-Goins and Da'varriea Robertson. Williams-Goins scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, while Robertson scored six points. The matchup was Williams-Goins' seventh in a row with at least ten points.
The victory (which was Viera's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2. As for Rockledge, they bumped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Viera and Heritage will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Heritage and Viera are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Rockledge won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Titusville at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. Hopefully Titusville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday.
