The Western Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Harrison Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Western is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.
On Wednesday, Western was able to grind out a solid win over Oak Hill, taking the game 7-2.
Lucy George spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brynley Erb was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Rylynn Gibbs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Harrison was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They came up short against Avon, falling 8-2.
Harrison saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallory Duell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Harrison's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Western, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Western hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Harrison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Western got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 against Harrison by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
