East Providence extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-8 in the process. They lost 11-5 to the Cranston West Falcons. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 11, 2021, but that streak is no more.
East Providence got a good showing from Cassie Dulude, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Nethania Figueroa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
As for Cranston West, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On Cranston West's side, Mia Crudale made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Crudale was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Mia Sampaio looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Ava Iannelli was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in June of 2024. Mia Baffoni also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Providence will host St. Raphael Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cranston West, they will be playing at home against Smithfield at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.7, the Sentinels 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
