Stevens hasn't had much luck against Holmes recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Stevens Falcons will welcome the Holmes Huskies at 10:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Stevens is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They lost 22-16 to Marshall. Even if the Falcons couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Malin Salas was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Solis, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Stevens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Holmes had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Marshall on Wednesday as Holmes made off with a 12-1 victory. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Huskies yet this season.
Lauren Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Olvera, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Martinez, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Holmes' win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Stevens, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
