The Roncalli Royals will face off against the Southwestern Rebels at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Southwestern took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Roncalli, who comes in off a win.
On Thursday, Roncalli made easy work of Greenwood and carried off a 19-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Royals.
Andrew McHugh looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Sam Roeder was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luke Roeder, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Roncalli always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Southwestern was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They came up short against Charlestown, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rebels have suffered since March 30, 2024.
Austin Jenkins was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.
Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Roncalli, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Everything went Roncalli's way against Southwestern in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Roncalli made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
