The Tate Aggies had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 75-64 victory over Navarre. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Lucas Williams, who scored 24 points along with eight steals and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Deonne Williams, jr. was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Defeat or not, Navarre got some senior leadership from Darius Cunningham and Jonah Forrest. Cunningham dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Forrest. scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 37.5% of Navarre's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was David Clearman, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Navarre were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tate only racked up eight assists.
Tate's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5. As for Navarre, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tate will stay at home for another game and welcome Milton at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Milton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Navarre, they will be playing at home against Choctawhatchee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
