The St. John's Mavericks came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 77-69 victory over St. Thomas Catholic. Given St. John's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while St. Thomas Catholic is ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Sebastian Williams-adams, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Booker, who scored 17 points.
St. John's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for St. Thomas Catholic, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
St. John's and Lutheran South Academy will round out the year against one another at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at. St. Thomas Catholic will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cooper at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th.
