Basketball Recap: Westville Sets Scoring Season-High Against Whiting

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westville). They claimed a resounding 74-14 victory over the Whiting Oilers. The Blackhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Westville found their leader in freshman Hillary Labis, who went 10 of 15 on her way to 21 points and seven rebounds. Labis' evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Fenters, who posted nine points along with seven assists and five boards.

Westville was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Westville's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Whiting, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Westville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hebron at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Westville is facing Hebron at the right time seeing as Hebron is stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Whiting, they will take on Wheeler at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Whiting will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: Wheeler will have lost seven straight heading into Saturday's contest.
