Andover extended the longest winning streak in Merrimack Valley - Division 1 this week by beating Chelmsford, 42-22. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Golden Warriors.
Andover made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 945 from 1,242. The advance stemmed from a 42-22 victory over the Lions last week.
Lowell's dynamic duo of Cam Latta and Alex Kasirye proved tough for Central Catholic to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Latta threw for 256 yards and four touchdowns and Kasirye had 130 yards receiving. Jack Galvin helped Lowell's passing attack out by catching six balls for 101 yards.
Jack Sylvester was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 102 yards as the Golden Warriors fell to the Raiders. Teammate Brandon Marti added to the ground attack by rushing for 25 yards.
Andover's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Golden Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. C J Scarpa has thrown for 1815 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, while Will Heikkinen has 45 catches for 763 yards. Sylvester leads the league in rushing with 624 yards.
The marquee game in Merrimack Valley - Division 1 this week will be the clash between Andover and Lowell. The Golden Warriors enters the contest ranked fifth in the state, while the Red Raiders ranks 17th.
Andover's Scarpa is within 185 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Lowell.
There should be lots of points scored when the Golden Warriors and the Red Raiders face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Andover comes in having scored 311 this season, while Lowell has scored 263. The Golden Warriors scored 42 points last week as they beat Chelmsford.
Central Catholic led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on the Red Raiders.
