For the first time this season, Mildred will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against the Cayuga Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cayuga will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Mildred extended their winning streak to four last Thursday. The Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over Oglesby.
Layton Atkeisson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braydon Spurlock, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Charlie Judson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Mildred always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Cayuga and Trinidad, and Cayuga kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Trojans on Friday. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly ten runs.
Jesse Wilfong was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Max Legard also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Mildred's record is now 7-1. As for Cayuga, their record now sits at 12-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mildred hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Cayuga struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mildred came out on top in a nail-biter against Cayuga in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
