Tonopah has gone a perfect 8-0 against Round Mountain recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Muckers will take on the Knights at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tonopah has nine straight wins, Round Mountain has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Tonopah is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Beaver Dam, who was ranked 17th in their home state at the time (Tonopah was ranked first). The Muckers breezed past the Diamondback to the tune of 59-0 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Muckers, who have now won seven matchups by 38 points or more so far this season.
Dustin Otteson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 193 yards and four scores on only nine carries, while also throwing for 47 yards and one touchdown. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making six total tackles. Another player making a difference was Adelaido Salgado, who gained 72 total yards and a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tonopah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 269 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Otteson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from him.
Meanwhile, Round Mountain played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 54-20 defeat at the hands of Pahranagat Valley. The Knights were down 54-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Tonopah's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Round Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Everything came up roses for Tonopah against Round Mountain in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 60-6 win. In that game, the Muckers amassed a halftime lead of 48-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
