It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Lytle Pirates ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past Natalia with a 76-72 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Lytle to victory were Chase Guevara and Seth Pierce. Guevara scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Pierce dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Pierce continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Perez, who scored 14 points.
Lytle has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 20-6 record this season. As for Natalia, their loss dropped their record down to 18-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lytle will take on Cotulla at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cotulla will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1559th, while Lytle is ranked 615th). As for Natalia, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Crystal City at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. Crystal City will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
