The Gregory School Hawks lost against the Ray Bearcats back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Gregory School fell 41-29 to Ray. The Gregory School has struggled against Ray recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zena Smith, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 48.3% of The Gregory School's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rose Pisetsky, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Ray got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josselyn Lechuga out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lechuga has scored all season. Elaina Figueroa was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
The Gregory School dropped their record down to 5-12 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.2 points per game. As for Ray, their victory bumped their record up to 7-17.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Gregory School will take on Patagonia at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Patagonia's defense has only allowed 29.4 points per game this season, so The Gregory School's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Ray, they will be playing at home against Superior at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Superior is ranked 301st, while Ray is ranked 294th).
