Baseball Recap: Sharon Wins Going Away Against Franklin

Sharon had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Franklin on Wednesday. The Tigers blew past the Knights 10-1. Considering the Tigers have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Coen Fertig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Derek Douglas, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Marko Zajac was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Sharon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.

Coming up, Sharon will square off against Sharpsville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Franklin, they will face off against Lakeview at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
