Owosso and Lake Fenton are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Trojans will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Owosso comes in on seven and Lake Fenton on eight.
Owosso took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lakeville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Falcons 7-6. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Hailie Caswell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Alaina Butte was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Poag, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Lake Fenton got themselves on the board against Brandon on Thursday, but Brandon never followed suit. They blew past the Blackhawks 10-0. Considering the Blue Devils have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Maddie Stanton (2027), who gave up just two hits to keep Brandon off the board.
On the hitting side, Laureena Baehl (2027) was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Heil (2027), who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Lake Fenton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .406 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Owosso's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season. As for Lake Fenton, their record now sits at 8-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Owosso has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Fenton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Owosso came out on top in a nail-biter against Lake Fenton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
