The Douglas Byrd Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They lost to South View on the road by a decisive 46-32 margin. While losing is never fun, Douglas Byrd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while the Tigers are ranked 129th).
Douglas Byrd's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazmine Burns, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Burns is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gemaiyia Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Douglas Byrd were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
South View found their leader in underclassman Jordynn Parnell, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Parnell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nahmiah Aekins, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Douglas Byrd's loss was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15. As for South View, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
Douglas Byrd will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Bears at 6:00 p.m. Gray's Creek is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for South View, they will head out on the road to take on the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
