Baseball Recap: South Mecklenburg Has No Trouble Against Ballantyne Ridge

South Mecklenburg never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Ballantyne Ridge on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Wolves. Considering the Sabres have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Longley looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Chris Short was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabe Luke-Judy, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

South Mecklenburg pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Ballantyne Ridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

South Mecklenburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wolves: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
