Basketball Game Preview: Spring Valley Timberwolves vs. Ironton Fighting Tigers

Spring Valley and Ironton are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Ironton is hoping to do what Preston couldn't on Friday: put an end to Spring Valley's winning streak, which now stands at five games. Everything went Spring Valley's way against Preston as Spring Valley made off with a 78-57 victory.

Spring Valley can attribute much of their success to Harrison Riggs, who posted 35 points, and Clay Robertson, who went 11 of 17 on his way to 25 points. Riggs' afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Caldwell, who had eight points.

Meanwhile, Ironton won against Greenup County last Saturday with 73 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. Ironton breezed by Gallia Academy to the tune of 73-35. The Fighting Tigers pushed the score to 52-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Blue Devils had little chance of recovering from.

Ironton's win came from a few key players Spring Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Braden Schreck, who put up 18 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Bryce Markins, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points.

Spring Valley's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Ironton, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Spring Valley might still be hurting after the 71-49 defeat they got from Ironton in their previous matchup back in January of 2022. Can Spring Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
