The Westfield Shamrocks suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 64-37 loss at the hands of Hamilton Southeastern. While losing is never fun, Westfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Hamilton Southeastern is ranked second).
Westfield's loss came despite strong showings from Lindsey Van dyke and Ellie Kelleher. Van dyke scored 11 points, while Kelleher scored eight points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kelleher pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Hamilton Southeastern was led to victory by Kennedy Holman and Maya Makalusky. Holman scored 17 points along with two steals, while Makalusky scored 24 points along with two steals. Makalusky is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Lawless, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Westfield bumped their record down to 12-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Hamilton Southeastern, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.
Westfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Indian Creek at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Indian Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Saturday. Hamilton Southeastern on the road again on Tuesday and play against Lawrence North at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th.
