Lytle and Natalia are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Lytle Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Natalia Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Lytle's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matches.
Lytle's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Crystal City 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kaycee Galindo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Galindo was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giselle Esparza, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. NAYELLI PACHECO also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Lytle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 12.4.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Natalia's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Hondo by a score of 8-7.
Arabella Gallegos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Selyene Gallegos was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Leyla Saenz, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Lytle now has a winning record of 7-6-1. As for Natalia, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lytle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Natalia struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lytle came out on top in a nail-biter against Natalia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 13-11. Does Lytle have another victory up their sleeve, or will Natalia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
