St. Petersburg has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Boca Ciega Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
St. Petersburg's 17-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They were outmatched by Lakewood at home and fell 75-31. St. Petersburg was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-17.
Despite their defeat, St. Petersburg saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ella Abernethy, who scored 7 points along with 4 steals, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Boca Ciega took a serious blow against Riverview Sarasota on Monday, falling 71-25. Boca Ciega has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
St. Petersburg's victory lifted them to 1-2 while Lakewood's defeat dropped them down to 4-2.
St. Petersburg took their win against Boca Ciega in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 60-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Petersburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
