1A District 5 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Lafayette extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 5 this week by beating Branford, 49-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Hornets.
Jefferson County took down Hamilton County 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Lafayette's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brycen Lee threw for 139 and two touchdowns and Tim Fleming had 53 yards receiving. On the ground James Bass chipped in 146 yards. Rodney Brown helped Lafayette's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.
Joseph Cooks made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Trojans fell to the Tigers. The senior recorded one fumble.
Kentwan Daniels provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Hamilton County lost to Jefferson County. He completed seven passes for 79 yards and also ran for 74 yards. Daniels' favorite target this week was Malik Randolph, who caught one pass for 30 yards.
Lafayette's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Hornets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Lee has thrown for 1139 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Brown has 32 catches for 551 yards. Bass leads the league in rushing with 1229 yards.
The Tigers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,228 from 5,685. The advance stemmed from a 49-6 victory over Al Nelson's team last week.
