Softball Game Preview: Metcalfe County Hornets vs. Caverna Colonels

Metcalfe County is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Caverna a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Metcalfe County Hornets will be playing at home against the Caverna Colonels at 5:00 p.m. Caverna took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Metcalfe County, who comes in off a win.

Metcalfe County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Fort Knox on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Harper Hurt was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Riley Froedge was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was LeeElla Boles, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Caverna fell victim to Adair County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians.

Caverna's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Metcalfe County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-11 record.

Everything went Metcalfe County's way against Caverna in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Metcalfe County made off with an 18-3 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Colonels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
