The Morgan Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Ogden Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Morgan gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Carbon 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
The team relied heavily on Kanyon Leonelli, who went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Talbot, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Morgan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ogden ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past Stansbury 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 31st.
Rodrigo Torres was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Torres was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Ogden's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-16 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Easton Green was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Ogden: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-16 otherwise. Denver Rhodes was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Morgan's record now sits at 14-10. As for Ogden, their record is now 6-17.
Morgan skirted past Ogden 5-4 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
