The Digital Pioneers Academy Pythons waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Capital City Public Charter School with points to spare, taking the game 78-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Digital Pioneers Academy found their leader in underclassman Aaron Lowman, who scored 23 points along with three steals. Lowman has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Yazan B, who scored 12 points.
Loss or not, Capital City Public Charter School got some senior leadership from Brady Arias-Hernandez and David Whittington. Arias-Hernandez almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds, while Whittington. scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Arias-Hernandez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Kelvin Davis was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Even though they lost, Capital City Public Charter School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Digital Pioneers Academy only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Digital Pioneers Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Capital City Public Charter School, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Digital Pioneers Academy will look to defend their home court on Monday against Washington Latin Public Charter School at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Digital Pioneers Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games. As for Capital City Public Charter School, they will head out on the road to challenge Bell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Capital City Public Charter School is facing Bell at the right time seeing as Bell is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
