Jay County has been on the road for three straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Southern Wells Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Jay County stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Delta 60-36. Given Jay County's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Delta is ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jay County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isabella Denton out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Denton scored 15 or more points. Molly Muhlenkamp was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Even though Southern Wells has not done well against Heritage recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Southern Wells made off with a 36-35 win over Heritage. The victory was just what Southern Wells needed coming off of a 70-27 loss in their prior contest.
Jay County pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Southern Wells, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13.
Everything came up roses for Jay County against Southern Wells in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 81-19 victory. Will Jay County repeat their success, or does Southern Wells have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
