On Wednesday, the Eastern Ramblers faced the School Without Walls Penguins in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Eastern greeted the New Year with with a 49-34 victory over School Without Walls. Winning may never get old, but Eastern sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Eastern was led to victory by Jayme Poindexter and Lanaia Martin. Poindexter scored 17 points along with eight steals and five assists, while Martin dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Martin's seventh in a row with at least ten points.
Eastern is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for School Without Walls, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern is on the road again on Friday and play against Anacostia at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Anacostia is ranked third, while Eastern is ranked first). School Without Walls will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McKinley Tech at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th.
