Loch Raven walked away with a 53-44 win over Owings Mills on Friday. Given Loch Raven's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Owings Mills is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owings Mills' loss came despite strong showings from Marcus Nelson and Neveah Elliott. Nelson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Elliott scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 36.4% of Owings Mills' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Loch Raven's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Owings Mills, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Loch Raven will face off against Kenwood at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Kenwood will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. As for Owings Mills, they will head out on the road to square off against Randallstown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
