Garnet Valley and Upper Darby are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Royals at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Garnet Valley came up short against Haverford and fell 7-3. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Garnet Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alaina Sareyka, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Upper Darby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Ridley 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Royals have posted against the Raiders since May 2, 2016.
Sarah Gentile made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over 8.1 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kaylie Hasson was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Yard, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Upper Darby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Upper Darby and bumps their season record up to 3-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Garnet Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Garnet Valley took their victory against Upper Darby when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
