Bloomfield extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 3-2. They walked away with a 54-41 win over the Plainville Blue Devils. The Warhawks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bloomfield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javonni Reynolds, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Reynolds' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron White, who threw for 201 yards and three TDs on only 16 passes.
Bloomfield's run defense was locked in: Plainville could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Naihyr Grace for the heroic effort on defense: he. Bloomfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.4.
Bloomfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Vernon Kelly Jr picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
As for Plainville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 4-0 Northwest Catholic (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 80% over those games).
Plainville lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Anthony Abarno, who threw for 323 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 30 yards. Yhosman Moffi got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Coming up, Bloomfield will welcome Northwest Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' defense has only allowed 6.5 points per game this season, so the Warhawks' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Plainville, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-20 win against Rocky Hill on the 23rd.
